Secretary Bialecki and Global Advanced Metals Announce Selection of Massachusetts as its U.S. Headquarters

Monday, June 24, 2013

Waltham, MA – June 24, 2013 – Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Economic Development Gregory Bialecki joined Global Advanced Metals Pty Ltd (GAM), a world leader in the socially responsible production of tantalum, to announce the opening of its U.S. subsidiary’s headquarters in Waltham, MA.

“Our innovation economy has fueled our recovery from the recession and created economic opportunity throughout the Commonwealth,” said Greg Bialecki, Secretary of Housing and Economic Development. “We welcome Global Advanced Metals and look forward to the company having continued growth and success here as it creates new jobs in Massachusetts.”

Global Advanced Metals is a world leader in the responsible production of conflict free tantalum and actively promotes the importance of sustainable mineral sourcing. GAM’s tantalum operations are vertically integrated from exploration, mining and processing of ore into concentrates, through to the manufacturing of capacitor powders and metallurgical products.

“As GAM continues to grow its operations around the world, Massachusetts is the ideal location with its hub of technology firms.” said GAM CEO Andrew O’Donovan. “This new office will allow us to continue our work to meet the international demand for the high quality, conflict free tantalum products we produce.”

Tantalum is a strategically important mineral with the majority of the world’s supply used in electronic products such as tablets, smart phones and laptops, safety and performance control systems in cars, aircraft engine turbine blades, as well as many other applications.

The United Nations and other organizations have drawn clear links between the illicit trade of certain minerals and the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a result, GAM has exclusively sourced ethically produced “conflict free” tantalum raw material throughout the world for their smelting and processing operations.
